Scott council approves police pay amendment, noise-variance authority and several routine measures

At its Oct. 4 meeting, the City of Scott council adopted two administrative ordinances and approved a bundle of routine actions recorded in the minutes.
Ordinance 2022-10 amends Ordinance 2017-10 to update the Scott Police Department salary schedule so that post-certified new hires will receive credit for time served within Lafayette Parish. Councilman Montoucet moved adoption and Councilman Bergeron seconded; the motion carried by majority.
Ordinance 2022-11 amends Sec. 14-27(C)(5) of the Scott Municipal Code to give the Mayor authority to approve variances to the noise ordinance for construction activity. Councilman Hollier moved adoption; Councilman Montoucet seconded and the motion carried by majority.
The council also: approved Resolution 2022-20 authorizing sale of a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe to the Opelousas Marshal's Office for $2,000; amended the budget to accept and expend a $2,000 donation from Scott Charities/State Farm; accepted dedication for West Village Phase 28 (Resolution 2022-22) and Chateaus Phase 2 with a contingency that the drainage pipe be approved by the City and City Engineer (Resolution 2022-21). A variance request for 4702 Cameron St. (Anybody's Towing Recovery; owner Thomas Huffman) failed for lack of a second. Councilman Bergeron moved to deny an appeal concerning 1633 St. Mary St. (owner Gerald Arceneaux) and the council agreed a fence must be installed before any map amendment would be reconsidered.
The minutes record motions and that motions "carried by majority" in most cases but do not include roll-call vote tallies or detailed contract amounts beyond the $2,000 sale price and $2,000 donation.
