Easton board moves $42,662.53 of delinquent accounts to Tax Collector's suspense list

The Board of Finance voted 6-0 to move $42,662.53 of outstanding tax-collection items to the Tax Collector's Suspense List; the Tax Collector said she will consult collection agencies and report recoveries.
At its June 2 special meeting the Easton Board of Finance authorized the Tax Collector to place $42,662.53 in outstanding items on the town's Suspense List.
Tax Collector Krista told the board she will reach out to collection agencies to pursue recoveries. She explained that when an agency successfully collects an account it typically applies an additional collection fee to the delinquent taxpayer and that the town receives the recovered principal when collected.
The motion to move the items to suspense was made by Ira Kaplan, seconded by Jackie Kaufman, and passed 6-0. The board directed the Tax Collector to report back on collection outcomes and any amounts recovered for the town's accounting.
