County Manager Thomas Weaver said budget season is beginning and previewed agenda items for the Feb. 4 regular meeting and the Feb. 24 work session. Those items include drafting cemetery bylaws (the county attorney and cemetery committee will coordinate research with staff), a review of the county’s conditional‑use permit process with Planning & Zoning invited to the Feb. 24 meeting (the commission agreed to move that meeting to 6 p.m.), and using 2024 LMIG funds to address Friendship Road (Commissioner Frost raised Liberty Hill as a nearby concern). The commission also agreed to add a SPLOST bank account to the Feb. 4 agenda and to propose reappointments to the Planning & Zoning board (Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown).
The minutes record a discussion of HB 581 in the context of keeping the county opted in and the prospect of a special election on a sales‑tax question in November; staff will prepare an informational flyer for the public. The work session moved into executive session at 10:12 a.m. to discuss legal, personnel and real estate matters and reconvened at 10:55 a.m.; the meeting adjourned at 10:58 a.m.
