County readies Friendship Road LMIG for bid; work session highlights additional road funding and repairs

Chattahoochee County commissioners on March 4 moved to table a vote on putting Friendship Road LMIG out to bid and carry the item forward to a work session for technical review. Commissioner Jason Frost made the motion to table; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded and the vote was unanimous.
At a March 25 work session, County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners the county had received a local road assistance grant that “piggybacks off the LMIG grant,” increasing funds available for road work. Weaver said the county received approximately $190,000 that can help with Liberty Hill Road and Riverbend Road work; he reported that McGlaun and parts of Smith Road were reworked with No. 7 stone in 2017 and are due for additional work this year. Weaver also described spot repairs on Liberty Hill Road and Wells Street where riprap was used, and said the county completed landfill repairs that required renting an excavator to lift and reset a concrete headwall; the county submitted inspection results to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
Commissioners discussed the Friendship Road LMIG packet and technical specifications; board members asked that bid documents be reviewed and returned to a future work session or the next regular meeting for decision. The county manager said bid packets had been received and technical specifications still required review before the board votes.
The work session also noted that the county’s 2025 SPLOST account has begun receiving revenues and that IGSA meetings are ongoing; recreation and community development staff provided routine program and event updates.
Next steps: staff will circulate Friendship Road LMIG bid materials for technical review and schedule the item for board action at a future work session or regular meeting.
