Resident Scott Carlson urges Town of Union to address speeding and trespassing at Argonne Park

Scott Carlson of 3116 Malverne Road told the Town of Union Board on May 7 that vehicles are consistently speeding in his neighborhood and that he is concerned for children playing outside. Carlson asked the board to consider installing "children at play" signs or additional speed limit signs to deter drivers. He said he has contacted both the New York State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Office but the problem persists.
Carlson also raised safety and trespass concerns at Argonne Park, saying No Trespassing signs have not stopped people from riding four‑wheelers, motorcycles and trucks there, and that some operators are driving onto residents’ yards. The minutes record repeated calls to State Police about the activity.
Supervisor Robert Mack responded that much of the land Carlson described is New York State property and the town lacks its own police department, limiting the town's direct jurisdiction over parts of Argonne Park. The board recommended that the Commissioner of Public Works inspect the area and reiterated the suggestion that Carlson continue to contact State Police or the Broome County Sheriff’s Office to request monitoring and radar enforcement.
The minutes do not record any binding directive to change signage or authorize an immediate enforcement action; the matter was referred for inspection by public works and to law enforcement for monitoring.
