Florence board approves series of routine contracts, trainings and final budget amendment

The Florence Board on Oct. 21 approved a bundle of routine municipal actions, including multiple vendor contracts, training authorizations and fiscal-year items.
Motions approved included: a $7,700 award to A J Construction, Inc. for a 6-inch asphalt base repair at Church & Main Street (lowest of three quotes); a $6,825 award to Precision Spray Foam of Mississippi to spray-foam the 50x40 public works shop (lowest of two quotes); and a $7,129.32 award to Apex Electric LLC to install a spyder box electrical system on Earl Clark Street (lowest of two quotes). The board also approved payment of $175 to the Mississippi Building Officials' Association for annual membership dues.
Fiscal and administrative approvals included final Budget Amendment #3 for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2025, and the list of business privilege licenses issued during the fiscal year; both were approved on the city clerk’s recommendation. The board also approved the mid-month claims docket and the Oct. 7, 2025 minutes.
Training and safety preparations were authorized: the city will send Mark Hester, Brad Burns, David Myers and Tyler Hayes to Sigma Chemical Spill Response training in Pearl, MS on Nov. 6, 2025, with registration of $135 each and related costs paid by the city as allowed by state law. The board previously authorized Police Chief Brad Burns’ attendance at the Dec. 9–12 Winter Educational Conference in Oxford, MS, with the city paying a $375 registration fee and allowable related costs.
