Florence mayor and board approve $156,160 sewer contract, emergency water-line repair and other routine business

The board met at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, where Mayor Morris called the meeting to order and Alderman Trey Gunn gave the invocation. On a motion by Alderman Brian Grantham, seconded by Alderman Trey Gunn, the board accepted Thornton Construction Company, Inc.'s low bid of $156,160 for the sanitary sewer additions project. The roll-call recorded Aldermen John Banks, Brian Grantham, Trey Gunn and John Helms voting "Aye." Alderman Mason Herrin did not participate in that vote, and the board noted he was invited to return to the meeting after not participating.
Earlier in the meeting, Alderman John Helms moved and Alderman Trey Gunn seconded approval of invoice M25017-D-01 Final to Maintenance Systems, Inc. for $12,070.93 to cover emergency repairs to the Florence Main Street water line; the motion passed unanimously. The agenda described the repairs as an emergency necessary to maintain continued water service to the community.
Other routine approvals included awarding a $20,500 quote to A-1 Construction, Inc. to frame in the public works maintenance/equipment building (the low of two quotes), approving signage for Star Services, Inc. as submitted by Budget Signs, LLC, and approving the mid-month claims docket. The board also appointed Alderman Trey Gunn as the city's MML voting delegate and Alderman Brian Grantham as the alternate on a unanimous vote.
A motion by Alderman Trey Gunn, seconded by Alderman John Helms, authorized engineering services to work with the City Attorney and MSI, Inc. concerning needed repairs at the downtown red light project; that motion carried unanimously. The board then approved the minutes of the June 10, 2025 meeting and adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
The minutes text names Mayor Morris as presiding. The meeting record is signed and attested by City Clerk Linda Wigley and includes a signature block listing "Trey Gunn" with a 2022 mayor label and date; the transcript contains both references and does not resolve the discrepancy.
