Oak Bluffs screening committee advances three finalists for town administrator

The Town of Oak Bluffs Town Administrator Screening Committee voted May 4 to advance three finalists to the Select Board after conducting preliminary interviews in executive session.
Chair Dion Alley called the meeting to order and committee member Greg Coogan moved to enter executive session “in accordance with MGL c.30A §21(a)(8) … in order to consider or interview for employment or appointment candidates for the position of town administrator, because an open meeting will have a detrimental effect in obtaining qualified candidates.” Chief Jonathan Searle supported the motion and a roll-call vote recorded eight aye votes to move into executive session; the committee stated it would not return to public session.
In the public minutes that followed, committee members reviewed four applicants identified in the record as #29, #8, #17 and #25. Members discussed each candidate’s strengths and weaknesses and, by consensus, agreed to forward candidates #8, #17 and #25 to the Select Board for formal interviews. Mr. Rick White was assigned to conduct extensive background and reference checks and to notify the candidates; he will advise Chair Alley when the checks are complete so Select Board interviews can be scheduled.
The committee’s public minutes record that Mr. James Hagerty recommended moving at least three of the four candidates forward. Chair Alley thanked members for their work on the screening process. At 12:45 p.m., Mr. Greg Coogan moved to adjourn; Mr. Bob Malecki seconded and a roll-call vote recorded eight aye votes.
