Florence approves emergency pump‑station repair, valve purchase and progress payment for sewer project

The board approved payment of $24,107.93 to Maintenance Systems, Inc. (invoice M25017‑C‑01‑Final) for emergency repairs to the Dogwood Hills Pump Station, a repair the minutes say was declared an emergency to prevent possible raw‑sewage leakage.
The city accepted the low bid of Eagle Pipe and Supply ($6,792.00) for a 4" Inserta Valve (Hydra Stop), the low of two quotes received. Separately, the council approved Pay Request #7 to Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. for Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions Phase II in the amount of $12,900.20; that vote shows Aldermen Banks, Grantham, Martin and Sistrunk voting Aye and Alderman Herrin recorded as not participating on that vote.
The board also authorized and directed Mayor Gunn to execute a contract with Thornton Construction Company, Inc. for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions Phase III project, conditioned on the city attorney’s review and approval of contract documents. The motion passed with recorded votes (Banks Aye, Grantham Aye, Herrin did not participate, Martin Aye, Sistrunk Aye).
City Engineer Tim Parker was directed to work with Horne CPA to assess whether the Jerry's Fish House project might be eligible for ARPA funding; the motion to explore ARPA funding carried unanimously.
What happens next: contract documents for Phase III will be reviewed by the city attorney before execution; the emergency repair vendor was paid and the valve purchase was approved for procurement.
