The Village of Mattawan council on June 8 approved final closeout of USDA watermain project documents and several related payments and purchases, set a Zoning Board of Appeals public hearing, and scheduled closed-session interviews for village manager applicants.
The actions centered on infrastructure and public works. Engineer Woodhams presented final USDA watermain closeout documents; Member McLean moved and Pro Tem Begeman seconded to close out the USDA documents. The council recorded a roll-call vote with Begeman, Daniel, McLean, Monroe and Streeter voting yes and Member Gurley abstaining; the motion carried. On land-use matters, Member Streeter moved and Member Monroe seconded to set a Zoning Board of Appeals meeting and public hearing for an accessory building variance submitted by William Emmert on July 13, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.; the motion passed. The council referred a McGillens Crossing “The Shops” HOA creation letter to Attorney Graham for recommendation after extensive discussion (motion by Daniel, seconded by Gurley).
The council addressed personnel matters in closed session.
