Fayette County denies four Longview Road rezoning petitions for M‑1 truck parking

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on May 28 to deny four related rezoning petitions (1378‑26 A, B, C, and D) that sought to convert several parcels along Longview Road from A‑R/R‑20 or R‑20 to M‑1 (Light Industrial).
Planning staff and the Planning Commission recommended denial, saying the parcels are designated low‑density residential in the county’s Future Land Use Plan and the proposed M‑1 zoning was therefore inconsistent with that designation. Petitioners argued the parcels had long been used for industrial or parking purposes, offered proffered conditions (including combining parcels, removing access to Longview Road, demolition of structures, and reducing the required 75‑foot landscape buffer to 50 feet), and said they had worked with the county on cleanup and erosion control. Engineer Matt Graham and business consultant Jimmy Pace spoke for the owner, Suren Nandlal (aka "Donnie").
Board members said they sympathized with efforts to clean and stabilize the properties but emphasized procedural concerns and the need for public review of materials. Commissioner Charles D. Rousseau moved to deny each petition and Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons seconded; each motion passed 4‑0 with Commissioner Eric K. Maxwell absent.

Several commissioners suggested petitioners continue to work with staff and consider the pending Comprehensive Plan review, which could change the long‑term land‑use designation for the corridor. The Board did not adopt any of the petitioners’ proffered changes at the hearing.
