County Manager Thomas Weaver told commissioners at a Feb. 24 work session that multiple public‑works items are in progress and that staff are dealing with inspection findings at the county’s stray‑animal facility.
Weaver said the roundabout project is underway and cautioned motorists to avoid the intersection while work proceeds. While contract documents list a 60‑day schedule, Weaver said he expects the work will likely take closer to a year to finish. He also reported a recent inspection of the stray facility produced concerns; county staff have 30 days to address the issues identified in the inspection report.
Weaver additionally reported a radio shed replacement pending connection by Columbus Communications, repair of a pipe on Hitchitee Creek Road and septic repairs at the sheriff’s department. Public Works staff said they have forwarded LMIG paperwork to an engineer so bid packets can be prepared; the board earlier approved an LMIG project switch from Riverbend Road to Friendship Road.
Commissioners asked staff to track bids, permit checkpoints and health‑department approvals for conditional‑use permit applicants whose projects will require permits from Public Works and the health department.
