Cusseta–Chattahoochee commissioners approve 2025 calendars and election-board appointments; several items tabled for review

Cusseta—The Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County on Dec. 3 approved its 2025 meeting calendar and employee-holiday schedule, appointed three volunteers to the Board of Elections and approved earlier meeting minutes.
Resolutions adopted by voice vote appointed Nancy Hoard to the Board of Elections for a term beginning Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028; Valerie Lassiter for Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2026; and Crystal Walker for Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028. Motions to approve each appointment were made from the floor and recorded in the minutes. Commissioner Biddle moved to approve Nancy Hoard; Commissioner Douglas seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Frost moved to approve Valerie Lassiter; Commissioner Biddle seconded and the vote was unanimous. Commissioner Frost moved to approve Crystal Walker with Commissioner Douglas seconding; Commissioner Biddle recused himself from the vote and the appointment was approved.
The Commission adopted its 2025 regular-meeting calendar after a floor motion by Commissioner Biddle (seconded by Commissioner Douglas). Commissioner Frost voted against the schedule change for work-session timing; Chairman Charles Coffey cast a tie-breaking vote to adopt the calendar. The board also unanimously approved an employee-holiday calendar for 2025 and approved minutes from Nov. 12 (regular and executive-session minutes) and the Nov. 25 work session.
On administrative and staff items, the board voted unanimously to table Cemetery Bylaws until a future work session and asked staff and the County Attorney to continue review. Commissioners also discussed a sheriff-department vehicle inventory in the Dec. 23 work session and deferred any purchase until staffing and vehicle-assignment questions are clarified; Amanda Beaver (speaking during the work session) said the department is not at full staffing.
County Attorney Bin Minter reported he has joined a new law firm and said an engagement letter would allow transfer of files; he also told the board that HB 581 contains changes to property-tax procedures and opt-in/opt-out rules the county should note. County Manager Thomas Weaver said staff attended an HB 581 seminar in Macon and recommended the county monitor the implementation and required deadlines.
The meeting entered and exited executive session during both the Dec. 3 meeting and the Dec. 23 work session to discuss legal matters; the board stated no votes were taken while in closed session.
