Cusseta–Chattahoochee County holds millage-rate hearings; proposes 8.512 mills

Commission leaders presented proposed tax figures at two public hearings in August and recommended that the county millage rate remain at 8.512 mills for 2024.
Chairman Charles Coffey and County Manager Thomas Weaver opened hearings on Aug. 19 and Aug. 26 to receive public comment on the millage rate. Coffey said the county’s gross digest had increased by roughly $64 million and that the tax assessor’s five-year history and digest details are public records available for inspection.
Weaver and Coffey explained the rate would be effectively unchanged from the previous year; Coffey told the room the millage is "8.512" and that the school millage is 17.30. No members of the public attended to speak at the called Aug. 19 hearing; the Aug. 26 hearing likewise drew no speakers and was adjourned after presentation of the figures.
The hearings and work-session discussions will lead to a formal vote on the millage rate at an upcoming called meeting; county staff have placed the millage-adoption item on the Sept. 3 regular meeting agenda.
Fiscal and procedural materials, including the digest and the five-year history cited by county staff, remain available from the tax assessor’s office and county administration.
