County workforce program faces about $173,000 (8%) cut; staff to lean on grants and volunteers

A workforce representative (speaker 7) said the program27s total grant is treated as several subgrants and noted the grant has been as high as $2.2 million in past years. The representative said the county received roughly $809,000 for dislocated workers and a little over $500,000 for adult services in the current grant, and that staff have already transferred about $100,000 from dislocated-worker funds to the adult population to offset the reduction.
"We'll have to figure out how to serve as many customers as we can with that," the workforce representative said, noting that the program will rely on partner organizations and volunteers and pursue other state grants such as rapid-response funding to mitigate the cut. Staff reminded members that administrative costs under the grant cannot exceed 50% of the award, which constrains staffing and operations.
Members asked staff to keep the committee apprised as the budget year progresses. The consent agenda including routine grant acceptance was approved by roll call during the meeting.
