Contractor and engineer report lake maintenance and stormwater performance after Tropical Storm Debbie; residents raise drainage concerns

Bill Kurth of Premier Lakes told the River Ridge board that "The lakes appear to be in very good shape," reporting that crews removed fallen trees from the Florida Power & Light ditch and outfall structure ahead of an impending tropical storm, a nano-bubbler repair at Lake H1-B will be completed the next day, and service frequency was changed from quarterly to monthly for the rainy season.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs said MRI’s project to replace Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates is about 80% complete and described stormwater performance from Tropical Storm Debbie: "Parts of the community received almost 8” of rain in two or three days and the roads are designed for 5½” of rain over a 24-hour period." He recommended adding a drainage connection in one area so water can bypass pipes and flow directly into a lake.
A resident reported belief that standing water was coming up through a slab and causing mold in a unit; Mr. Krebs stated he did not believe the standing water was the cause because other units did not report similar issues and he recalled previous standing-water occurrences. Mrs. Adams asked staff to include the item on the next agenda for further comment from Mr. Long.
On maintenance requests, resident Anita Bachragh asked that a downed tree by River 9 Catch Basin #134 be brought upright and requested additional conservation-area clearing; Mr. Willis said he would review past minutes and Mrs. Adams asked Ms. Bachragh to send photographs for staff to assess. Christine Mantilia asked about stormwater permits and whether fire trucks could draw water from lakes; Mr. Krebs said that is not typical and "It would also require approval from the South Florida Water Management District. (SFWMD)." Mr. Long is expected to provide an update on the speed sign project and a contractor schedule at the next meeting.
