Resident presses River Ridge board to address persistent Pinehurst drainage and flooding risks

Resident Shari Perkins urged the River Ridge Community Development District Board on July 23 to address ongoing drainage problems near the Pinehurst triangle monument, saying that a week after a pipe was plugged water was still overflowing and ponding had increased. "A week after the street drains were plugged, the drainage issues persist; water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area," Perkins reported to the board.
Perkins also relayed concerns circulated by resident Fred Kronke about a retention pond between River 8 and River 9 that "appears to be non-functional" and has ponding nearly 1 foot above the drain, a condition she said could heighten flood risk.
District Engineer John Baker described the situation as a follow-on effect of one system previously pushing water into a lower system; after an inlet was plugged there is currently no outlet for the accumulated water, which Baker said can behave like "a very tiny pond in a pipe." Baker told the board further study is likely required and emphasized the importance of photographic or video evidence to help staff diagnose the issue. Perkins agreed to provide video footage to CDD staff.
The board directed the District Engineer to view the drainage location firsthand and investigate possible remedies. Resident Ed Nowak asked for the precise location of the outflow at the northern end of Pinehurst Greens Drive; Mr. Adams explained the pipes in question run between houses, across the street and golf course and eventually flow into the Estero River via a ditch.
Next steps recorded in the meeting include the District Engineer conducting a site inspection and staff reviewing additional proposals for inlet protection work; MRI Construction’s estimate for a Pine Hurst inlet top (discussed later on the agenda) will remain on the agenda for further consideration.
