Mendon Township’s fire leadership finalized an automatic aid agreement with the Centreville Fire Department for structure-fire responses, Supervisor Kline and Chief Oatley reported at the board’s Dec. 2, 2025, meeting.
Chief Oatley said the draft agreement is modeled on the pact Centreville has with the City of Three Rivers and Fabius/Park townships and that he and “Chief Miracle” reviewed and adjusted details to reflect Mendon’s relationship. Oatley told the board the pact would apply anytime a structure fire broke out and described daytime calls as the primary concern driving the change. Supervisor Kline signed the agreement during the meeting, and Oatley said he will deliver the signed document to Dave Miracle this week.
The chief said the township’s adoption of automatic aid will allow closer coordination with Centreville but that, once in place, Mendon will end its mutual-aid arrangement with Leonidas, citing that Leonidas has not provided sufficient support for daytime calls. The minutes record this as an operational decision taken by leaders rather than a formal, recorded roll-call vote.
The board did not record a formal motion on the agreement in the minutes; Chief Oatley indicated the signed agreement will be shared with Centreville leadership for implementation. The minutes do not specify an effective date or changes to existing response protocols beyond the broad statement that the automatic aid applies to structure fires.
