Waynetown authorizes pool sandblasting authorization and equipment purchases

Waynetown councilors on Sept. 10 authorized town officials to proceed with a sandblasting and repainting job for the municipal pool if staff cannot find a lower estimate.
Utility Superintendent John Warren read a written quote from Knauss Property Services for $38,422.30 to sandblast the pool and indicated any painting must follow sandblasting immediately to avoid moisture damage. "If Spear cannot help us to get a better estimate," Warren said, "go ahead with the Knauss estimate," and the council authorized President Bob Cox and Warren to make that decision.
Council also discussed replacing worn lounge furniture and the large shade 'Funbrella.' Sandy Proctor was authorized to purchase up to six sling chairs if she finds them on sale; the Funbrella replacement cost was discussed as roughly $10,000. Warren noted the town has not sandblasted previously because vendors will not guarantee paint adhesion over multiple existing paint layers without that prep work.
The actions aim to preserve pool infrastructure ahead of off‑season and maintain public access for summer programs and rentals.
