East China School District board approves 2026 millage levies, 7-0

At a June 8 special meeting, the East China School District Board of Education approved certification of the district's 2026 millage levies, recording a 7-0 vote. The board set the voted operation rate at 18.00 mills (non-homestead) and the voted debt retirement rate at 2.34 mills.
Per the agenda and administration recommendation, Ronald Miller moved to adopt the resolution certifying the 2026 tax rates; Jamie Haslem seconded the motion. The motion carried with all seven board members voting in favor: Jessica Becker, Karen Cedar, Lindsay Chopp, Jamie Haslem, Ronald Miller, Shawn Treadaway and President Michael Westrick.
District staffer Stephanie Calu reviewed the Certification of Taxes on the agenda prior to the vote. The resolution as presented on the agenda states it is "for the 2026 tax rolls for the East China School District, St. Clair County" and lists the two millage amounts adopted by the board.
The action was recorded as an official board motion and vote during the special meeting. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:29 p.m.
