Council approves City Pride sign agreement with TxDOT to replace entry signage

The council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign the City Pride sign agreement between the State of Texas (TxDOT) and the City of Socorro. Planning staff said the action allows the city to replace distressed entry signage in the state right-of-way and that TxDOT has reviewed plans. Under an earlier municipal maintenance agreement the city will assume ongoing maintenance responsibilities for the signs.
"This agreement allows the city of Socorro to replace the city pride signs within the state's right of way," planning staff said, noting maps showing sign locations and that several signs have already been removed for being in poor condition. Planning and zoning recommended approval and council voted in favor.
The resolution passed by voice vote and staff will follow up with TxDOT to finalize replacement work and maintenance arrangements.
