Park operations emphasize safety and cleanliness in National Parks and Recreation Month remarks

Jimmy Bradley, Park Operations Superintendent, said the Parks Department is marking National Parks and Recreation Month and described daily maintenance priorities.

"My name's Jimmy Bradley. I'm the Park Operations Superintendent, and we're celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month," Bradley said, opening the presentation.

Bradley said the maintenance staff’s top task every morning is cleaning parks and keeping facilities functional. "Our our first priority is to make them safe and make everything functional, and then we try to make them as um you know, aesthetically pleasing as we can," he said.

He outlined how crews are organized: a fields group that prepares and lines sports fields for youth and adult events and a parks crew that handles landscaping and mowing. Bradley described the fields group as responsible for "prepping and lining fields for for youth or adult uh sporting events" and said the parks crew focuses on turf care and landscape maintenance.

Beyond routine upkeep, Bradley emphasized the role parks play in the community. He noted that parks can be a refuge for people dealing with personal difficulties and that providing well-maintained green space matters for public wellbeing: "...you never know what people are dealing with, and sometimes the park is their is their refuge."

The presentation focused on operational practices rather than new policies or budget actions. Bradley’s remarks described how staff allocate time each day between safety-related tasks and aesthetic improvements and explained the practical division of labor between field preparation and general park maintenance.

Bradley concluded by reiterating the department’s goal of keeping parks safe, functional and welcoming during the month-long observance and beyond.
