The Buford City Commission on Feb. 3 authorized Chairman Phillip Beard to sign a resolution applying for Fiscal Year 2025 Georgia Department of Transportation Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funding of up to $8,000,000 for a pedestrian bridge that would connect the city's sidewalk network to Buford High School and Buford City Stadium.
The commission voted 3-0 in favor of the motion, moved by Commissioner Chris Burge and seconded by Commissioner Bradley W. Weeks. The resolution directs staff to prepare the application and any supporting materials required by GDOT.
The bridge is described in the motion as a city project intended to improve pedestrian access to Buford High School and the stadium. The authorization is to apply for state funding only; the motion does not commit city matching funds or final design approval. Further approvals or grant agreements would be required before construction could begin.
Next steps: city staff will complete the TAP application and return to the commission for any required match commitments or final contract approvals if the grant is awarded.
