Adams County commissioners advance $20–22 million justice center plan, send to county council

Adams County commissioners voted at their June 30 meeting to advance a proposed justice center plan estimated at $20–22 million and to present the proposal to county council for review on July 14.

Staff said the Elevate study and follow-up design work from Garmong propose relocating Superior Court to the first floor of the historic courthouse while constructing a new building across Third Street to house the clerk’s office, prosecutor, probation, community corrections and the public defender. Commissioners described the plan as a long-term solution to space and operational needs and moved to advance the project to council for funding decisions.

Steve (staff lead on the study) told the board the scheme consolidates justice partners and would allow the courthouse to meet needs for the next two decades; commissioners noted the presentation included funding options and that representatives from Baker Tilly and the design team will attend the council presentation to outline possible financing strategies.
