Chelsea City Council on Sept. 19 approved two capital maintenance items for the city's Water Treatment Plant.
Water/Wastewater Superintendent Davis told council the plant needs bypass piping so the operator can backwash iron filters with filtered water rather than phosphorus-treated water and so the system can bypass the ground storage tank and iron filters if either fails. Council accepted a Monroe Plumbing & Heating Company quote of $22,400 for the piping work and approved buying three pneumatic valves, bringing the total to $31,691.
Davis also reported that the main upper roof at the Water Treatment Plant has had repeated repairs and is ready for replacement; staff received two quotes and the council accepted Billy White Roofing LLC's $53,640 quote for phase one of the roof replacement. Council members noted a budget amendment will be required to fund the roof project; no amendment was presented or approved during the meeting.
Both motions passed on unanimous voice votes.
