City Manager Roy Atkinson described the state program and said the city will coordinate with the Parks and Recreation Commission, local trail groups and the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce to prepare an application and the supporting local organization. Council Member Kate Mehuron and others cited expected benefits such as promoting healthy lifestyles, conserving natural resources and catalyzing economic activity.
The council adopted the resolution on a unanimous voice vote; no implementation timeline or specific budget commitments were set during the meeting.
