Chelsea council approves routine business, appointments and agreements in unanimous votes

Chelsea — The City of Chelsea City Council on Jan. 23 approved a slate of routine and administrative items, including minutes and bills, appointments to boards and commissions, a consent judgment with Consumers Energy, and a renewal of a landfill service agreement.
Council unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included meeting minutes from Jan. 9, approval of bills and a Power Purchase Commitment authorization. The council then approved amendments to the regular agenda.
On council business, members approved a Consent Judgment offered by Consumers Energy to resolve litigation tied to a pipeline replacement in Sylvan Township; the judgment preserves the City’s rights under an existing utility easement and was reviewed by city legal counsel before the unanimous vote.
Appointments and staffing matters included the reappointment of Michelle Elie to the Board of Review for a three-year term ending Jan. 31, 2026; adoption of a resolution appointing directors to a reconstituted nine-member Economic Development Corporation board (with Council Member Bill Ruddock designated as an additional council representative); and appointment of Jacquelyn Bullerman to the Human Rights Commission for a term ending Feb. 1, 2026.
Council also approved renewing the city’s landfill service agreement with GFL/Arbor Hills Landfill, Inc., citing proximity and cost of transport. Council voted at first reading to update city code references to adopt the 2018 edition of the National Fire Protection Association code (Ordinance 182) and advanced the ordinance.
All motions on the consent and regular agenda, board appointments, the Consumers Energy consent judgment, the landfill agreement and the ordinance first reading passed with unanimous votes recorded as "All Ayes. Motion Carried." The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
