Fluvanna supervisors approve two-year bulk water deal with Louisa County Water Authority

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 on June 17 to approve a two-year bulk water purchase agreement with the Louisa County Water Authority (LCWA).
The contract allows LCWA to purchase up to 25,000 gallons per day, with an optional additional 10,000 gallons per day at the same rate paid by other county water customers, and establishes monthly meter reads and billing on the county’s standard schedule. The county may reduce the primary 25,000-gpd allocation with six months’ written notice and reduce the optional 10,000-gpd allocation with three months’ written notice; the agreement specifies reductions may occur if additional users join the system.
County Attorney Dan Whitten presented the agreement and County Administrator Eric M. Dahl explained staff’s position that the sale would not affect existing users because the system has excess capacity. The motion to approve authorized the County Administrator to execute the agreement subject to the County Attorney’s approval as to form.
The approval was part of the meeting’s Action Matters and passed on a 5-0 voice vote. The agreement term is two years unless terminated by either party with six months’ written notice; billing and collection procedures will follow existing county practice.
The Board did not attach additional conditions at the time of approval. Staff said it will administer billing through existing meter reads and the county will monitor system capacity if new users come online.
