After approving agenda items commissioners received a series of project updates from staff on ongoing and proposed developments in West Allis.
Staff reported that phase one of a garden-apartment project (about 40–44 units) is under construction and expected to be substantially complete in August 2026, with foundations and parking-garage footings underway for other buildings. The presentation included a developer-supplied drone shot of construction progress.
Staff also summarized a five-story mid-rise project near 70th and Greenfield (referred to as the "apiary"), describing roughly 200–250 units, a clubhouse with amenities, and that more than 70 units were already leased; portions of that project are expected to be substantially complete by Nov. 1.
On a separate concept, staff said the Longfellow Apartments proposal (adaptive reuse of a former elementary school) recently received about $1.3 million in WEDA tax credits toward a conceptual ~55-unit development combining the existing school building and new garden-style units; the project is early-stage and will return for review as plans firm up.
Commissioners also asked about a previously approved redevelopment (the 6500 Bar & Grill site) that appears stalled; staff said code enforcement issued a raze order and the matter is in the city's legal process to try to move the site toward action.
The commission then adjourned.
