Kelly Barry elected president of Rockville Centre school board in 3‑2 vote; Donna Downing named vice president

Kelly Barry was elected president of the Rockville Centre Union Free School District Board of Education in a 3–2 vote during the board’s reorganizational meeting, and she promptly recited the oath of office.
The board opened nominations for president; trustees nominated Kelly Barry and Erica Messing. After the roll call, the chair announced “the vote is three and two in favor of Ms. Barry.” Barry then recited the oath, saying, “I, Kelly Barry, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties as president of the Board of Education of the Rockville Centre Union Free School District according to the best of my ability.”
President Barry asked for nominations for vice president. Trustees nominated Donna Downing and Krista Dorrigo; Donna Downing was sworn in as vice president. Erica Messier was subsequently nominated and sworn in as secretary of the board.
The board approved a motion to appoint all five members of the Board of Education to serve collectively as the audit committee. Following that action, Mary Louise Celiberti recited the oath as District Clerk.
The board also moved to appoint Carrie Rinaldi as Treasurer for the 2026–2027 school year; Rinaldi recited the oath for that role. The board noted that the Deputy Treasurer, Mr. Herman, will begin employment on July 20 and his formal appointment will occur at that time.
During the reorganizational portion the board approved committee assignments: all five trustees will serve on the audit committee and the building visitation committee; Ms. Messier was assigned to the district‑wide safety team and to the finance committee alongside Ms. Joyce; Mrs. Dorrigo and Dr. Downing were assigned to IEPs; Mrs. Dorrigo to the Parent Advisory Title I and the wellness committee; Dr. Downing and Ms. Joyce to Policy; and Dr. Downing will continue as the Ed Foundation liaison.
The reorganizational meeting was adjourned and the board proceeded to a public work session.
The board approved consent agenda items E1 through H11 during the public work session; individual vote totals beyond the president’s 3–2 tally were not recorded in the transcript.
