Nonprofit CLERC details $40M in wildfire-risk funding and upcoming public meeting

Tracy Klein, stewardship director at the Clear Lake Environmental Research Center, briefed the East Region Town Hall on June 3 about CLERC’s wildfire risk-reduction programs. Klein said the organization has secured more than $40 million in funding and identified about 11,000 acres for treatment across Lake County.
"They have secured over $40M in funding to reduce wildfire risks, with over 11K acres identified for treatment," Klein said, listing programs that include no-cost county-wide chipping, strategic field breaks, roadside evacuation-route clearing, post-fire research and restoration, wildfire monitoring and Mediterranean Oak Borer management. She noted projects in the northshore above Nice and Lucerne and described planned roadside mastication at Double Eagle Ranch and post-fire management on High Valley Road on private lands.
CLERC announced a public meeting at Robinson Rancheria on July 8 from 5–7 p.m. to share project updates and invited local landowners to participate; Klein told ERTH the group is investigating mastication for New Long Valley Road to Spring Valley. Why this matters: large-scale treatment funding and on-the-ground projects can change fire risk and evacuation planning for northshore communities. ERTH members asked about specific roadside projects and coordination with private landowners; CLERC said some work will require landowner permission and additional planning.
