Residents urge action on community projects, SEDD concerns and contractor disputes at Monroe council meeting

"It will be a soft opening this Saturday free of charge located at 917 DeSiard Street," she said, asking the city to support small-business opportunities.
Bishop Hezekiah spoke in favor of paying garbage workers $15 an hour and urged unity in the city. T.J. Stevenson thanked the council for appointing Monyea Hampton and raised an attorney's complaint alleging misconduct and malfeasance at SEDD; she also described recent work at the Dream Center, saying the city had paid $36,000 and received a new invoice for $12,000 and requested an executive session to address the matter.
Curtis Garth asked the city to demolish and rebuild his home, which he said was damaged by city actions. Robert E. Johnson voiced concerns about a vacant department-head position and said the mayor should follow the Home Rule Charter for appointments; Mr. McFarland said a director letter will be on the next agenda.
Council members acknowledged the comments and provided procedural guidance (for example, how a special meeting can be called). No executive session or immediate action on the requests was taken at the meeting; items will be processed according to council rules and future agendas.
