Monroe council introduces ordinance to establish sober living-home rules and OKs sale of adjudicated lot

The Monroe City Council on Sept. 23 voted to introduce an ordinance that would add definitions and use standards for sober living homes in the city's zoning code and to introduce an ordinance authorizing sale of a property acquired by adjudication.
Mr. Muhammad said the proposed ordinance is intended to "tighten up residential sober living" as many such homes exist in the community. Mrs. Ezernack said the proposal is aimed at the safety of residents and those living in or near sober living homes.
Separately, by unanimous vote the council approved Resolution No. 9001 appointing Monyea Hampton to the Board of Commissioners for the Southside Economic Development District.
The introduced sale ordinance would authorize the city to take corporeal possession of Lot 4, Square 3, Layton's Texas Ave. Addition (707 S. 14th St., District 5) and sell any interest it holds to Alvin McClain. Both ordinances were introduced for consideration at a future meeting; no final votes were taken on the ordinances at this session.
