The Monroe City Council on Oct. 14 authorized the Purchasing Division to advertise for bids for the G.B. Cooley House rehabilitation project, which the city estimates at $825,000. The council approved the action unanimously.
City Engineer Morgan McCallister said the project will focus on interior rehabilitation of the historic structure and is funded in part by a "Save Our National Treasures" grant awarded through Governor John Bel Edwards' administration. He said the City's capital infrastructure plan will cover the remaining portion but that the city's share may decrease as the Cooley Foundation continues fundraising.
The Purchasing Division reported a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation estimate of 9.5 percent. The council's authorization to advertise for bids begins the procurement process; the formal contract award would come later after bid review and closeout steps.
Council members recorded no public comments on the item and asked procedural questions about project funding and DBE participation.
