Cady Gerlach (Better Together 2030 / Greater Iowa City) outlined a three‑part offer: outreach to broaden the applicant pool, a structured application and rubric to ensure consistent review, and assistance convening a balanced review group to recommend nominees to the board.
Gerlach proposed a timeline: post the application on June 29, keep it open through July 13, review applications July 14–20, and provide nominees for board consideration by the July 28 meeting. She emphasized the group would only support the selection process; the board retains final appointment authority.
Board members expressed gratitude and asked staff to ensure the charter’s two‑week posting requirement is met and to coordinate a short special meeting if needed to approve staff designees and an application draft. Several directors supported pairing the launch with a limited communications contract — board staff said Wixted & Company had provided an initial proposal that could be considered at a special meeting or July 28.
