Fredonia board honors longtime staffers, approves multiple hires across academics and CTE

The board honored multiple long-serving district employees and approved a slate of new hires during its July 1 meeting.
Trustees accepted, with regret, the resignation and retirement of Margaret ("Peg") Risby, a school secretary described by multiple speakers as having 45 years of service and deep institutional knowledge. The board also accepted the retirement of Melissa Carmela (38 years of service). Members read tributes and applause followed.
On personnel appointments, the board approved the appointment of Alec Chambers to a mathematics 7–12 teaching position; trustees described Chambers’ academic background and interview. The board approved Kayla Goldbacker to a probationary foreign‑language teaching position and reappointed Nick Candle as athletic director for 2026–27. The board also approved career and technical education appointments for Paige Burnhard (culinary/career education) and Ron Stewart (family and consumer sciences / CTE).
Trustees described the hires as responses to certification needs and to fill CTE and middle‑school program gaps. Each appointment was moved and carried by voice vote during the meeting.
