New Bremen council approves 6% electric rate adjustment; average bill rises about $4

The Village of New Bremen council on Oct. 13 adopted a third-reading ordinance to modify electric rates through the Power Supply Cost Adjustor to close a roughly 6% shortfall in the utility’s revenue.
Village Administrator Richter summarized a rate study presented Aug. 11 by John Courtney showing higher costs for electrical supplies and capital expenditures since the last adjustment in 2019. Richter said the change would take effect with meter readings on Jan. 15, 2026, with payment due Feb. 10, 2026, and that the average resident using 800 kWh would see about a $4-per-month increase.
Council member Bertke moved to adopt Ordinance 2025-09-16, and Council member Pulskamp seconded. The motion carried with six ayes from the members present (Hurley, Condon, Larger, Burnell, Pulskamp and Bertke). The ordinance was recorded as a third reading and approved during the meeting.
The action implements the Power Supply Cost Adjustor mechanism to pass changes in power supply costs through to consumers; the council’s minutes attribute the adjustment to a projected 6% shortfall driven by supply and capital cost increases. The council did not record additional amendments to the ordinance in the minutes.
The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
