Council approves settlements, ordinances and multiple resolutions in May 26 session
Summary

At its May 26 meeting the Lafush Parish Council approved a series of actions that will affect parish operations and services.
Executive-session authorizations: After an executive session the council authorized the parish president to execute settlement agreements in two matters: a settlement with Kicole Phillips and a settlement with Hillcore. Both authorizations were moved by Mr. Perk on behalf of the administration, seconded, and approved by recorded vote (eight yays, zero nays, one absence).
Ordinances and motions: The council approved an ordinance approving a 40-by-190-foot servitude dedication naming Magnus Street in the Nar Rose area and adopted an ordinance installing a four-way stop at Talbet Avenue and Ridgefield Road after citing a traffic study. The council approved the previously described IDB ordinance as amended and granted a variance for Manchester Manor subdivision (see separate coverage on the variance and the IDB amendment).
Resolutions and agreements: The council appointed three members to its Keep Beautiful Committee; approved an LGAP agreement for use of sheriff’s office funds; approved reimbursement agreements for senior citizen centers’ recreational activities; authorized an agreement with Nickel State University to use office space for community action services; approved a summer-program agreement with the Moses Community Center; and approved a memorandum of understanding with the Secretary of State to establish an early-voting location at the Lockport Community Center. Most resolutions passed unanimously (eight yays, zero nays, one absence where noted).
Official journal and finance reporting: The council appointed the Daily Comet as its official parish journal for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026; the motion passed 6–2–1 after a short debate about a local preference for publication. The finance representative also delivered April 2026 financial statements and the council discussed infrastructure funding priorities and tight budget constraints; the parish president noted recent emergency pumping used roughly $89,000 in fuel during heavy rain events.
