New Bremen council reviews street projects, salt bid and solicitor contract in brief session

The Council of the Village of New Bremen on Nov. 10, 2025 used a short evening meeting to review local infrastructure work, procurement and several first-reading items.
Village Administrator Richter reported the village has met with consultants about next steps and options for wastewater treatment improvements and that Vine and Park Street reconstruction is finishing punch-list items. Herman Street paving is complete and crews are expected to perform crack sealing along the curb.
Richter also reported that the water plant salt bid opened Nov. 4 and Artesian of Pioneer was the sole bidder at $178 per ton, unchanged from the current price; staff said they will try a solar salt product and estimated annual use at about 675 tons. The council recorded a first reading of Resolution 2025-11-17 to accept the salt bid; no vote on final award occurred at the meeting.
The council heard a first reading of a resolution to reimburse Auglaize County $14,500 for exterior library signs installed during a 2024 renovation and a planning commission-recommended first reading of Ordinance 2025-11-20 to allow a conditional use at 218 N Main St for martial-arts/self-defense instruction (applicants Todd and Mary Smith). Solicitor Jason This's contract, currently $20,000 per year and expiring Dec. 31, 2025, was presented for first reading with a proposed renewal for Jan. 2026'Dec. 2027 at $21,000 per year.
Mayor Robert D. Parker also reminded residents that the village will have an open council seat on Jan. 1, 2026 and asked interested residents to drop off resumes at the village office by Monday, Nov. 24. The council adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
