Carlos council approves driveway rule, gaming-permit application, fire gear purchase and fills council seat

The City of Carlos Council handled several administrative and operational items at its May 14 meeting, approving motions and issuing direction on matters ranging from driveway standards to a personnel appointment.
Driveway request: After reviewing a request for 407 Douglas Avenue, Bolten & Menk recommended limiting the property to two driveways with approximately 70 feet of separation. The council approved allowing two driveways and set the rear driveway width at 19 feet (motion by James Young; second by Jon Trenne; vote recorded as All Ayes).
Carlos Lions gaming permit: Dean Lindstrom requested the Carlos Lions Club be permitted to apply for gaming at the Event Center; the council approved the organization's ability to apply. The council noted the city's rent would not exceed 10% of monthly gross profits, the annual fee would be handled by the Lions, and either party could terminate the arrangement with 30 days written notice.
Fire department equipment: Fire Chief Colten Steidl reported April call activity and requested new gear. The council approved purchasing three sets of structural turnout gear (approximate total $12,000) immediately and agreed to defer wildland gear (approximate $8,000) to a later phase.
Pet licensing: The council discussed ongoing noncompliance with pet registration and vaccination requirements. Because the current ordinance allows penalties up to $300 without a fixed schedule, council consensus was to set a flat $200 fee for violations and directed the clerk to draft a written penalty policy for the June meeting.
Appointment: Jon Trenne moved to appoint Wesley Wright to fill a council vacancy through Dec. 31, 2028; Damon Bullock seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council also approved the meeting minutes and adjourned at 8:39 p.m.
