The Lush Parish Council on May 12 approved multiple ordinances, resolutions and procurement actions during a meeting that followed a presentation from Magnolia Water.
Key formal outcomes included:
- Ordinance authorizing a November 3, 2026 election in Hospital Service District No. 2 to renew a special tax (item 2) — motion passed on the council floor.
- Ordinance approving a purchase agreement with Valentine Realty LLC to acquire a property on Highway 308 for $151,000 (item 3). A council member recorded an abstention where he said he had a relationship with the property owner; the motion passed with the abstention noted in the minutes.
- Ordinance 26-002, a 2026 supplemental appropriation to the operations and maintenance budget to cover shortfalls after carry-forwards (item 4) — motion passed.
- Dozens of resolutions awarding low bids and contracts for nuisance abatement and demolition to firms including Chesson's Demolition LLC and Advanced Service Group LLC, with individual awards ranging from about $3,800 to $7,800 across multiple properties. The clerk’s tally entries list each award and the recorded votes approving them.
- Resolution approving an agreement with Crescent Multimedia Solutions for audio-visual courtroom systems at Tibido City Court Chambers (item 38). Parish President Oer said the equipment will temporarily serve city court while the historic courthouse is taken out of service and will be reinstalled later.
- Resolution approving an agreement with the state Office of Louisiana Highway Construction for the Valentine pontoon bridge replacement project (item 39). Parish officials said the parish will contribute $3.5 million and the state will provide the remainder toward an estimated $9.5 million project; council approved the agreement.
Council also considered but did not adopt a motion to designate The Daily Comment as the parish’s official journal for 2026–27 (item 40). The motion failed after a split roll call (four yays, three nays, two absences); council members discussed state statute requirements and agreed to pursue a legislative request for relief.
Several routine appointments and reappointments to boards, and change orders for hurricane repairs and bridge rehabilitation projects, were approved by recorded votes. The meeting adjourned at 18:21.
Where the minutes recorded tallies, the clerk’s roll is cited in the minutes (multiple items recorded as unanimous or with the noted abstention/absence).
