Avoca council reviews staff reports, approves website SSL and to work with Benton County inspection program

At its July 9 meeting the Avoca Town Council approved several administrative and staff items. Recorder‑Treasurer Nanette Barnes presented the June financial statement and reported that the town website needs an SSL certificate; Alderman Jordan Sullivan moved and Alderman Kathy Hansen seconded a motion to buy a two‑year SSL certificate for $350, which passed unanimously.
Benton County Fire Marshall Mark Trollinger presented Avoca Fire & Rescue’s June activity: 49 calls in total, including 30 EMS calls, six fires, three motor‑vehicle accidents and seven road‑related calls; he described the county’s Risk Reduction program for building inspections and said he would email additional information to the recorder. The council voted to pursue that program and to form an exploratory committee including Aldermen King, O'Dell, Sullivan, Zoning Official Jim Mills and Recorder‑Treasurer Barnes.
Other administrative items recorded in the minutes: two new business permits (Grey Barn Interiors and Grey Barn Custom Home Furnishings at 530 Courtney Lane), no building permits reported for June, and the farmers market had 17 vendors. Recorder‑Treasurer Barnes will contact Elizabeth Bowen at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission about the Avoca Heritage Trail grant timing and Tim Gehring at the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management about FEMA inspection and closeout related to street repairs.
