Avoca council approves $20,000 to finish ditch and culvert repairs after flooding

The Avoca Town Council voted unanimously July 9 to approve an amended motion to allocate $20,000 to finish ditch and culvert repair work on Woods Lodge and Rader Road following flood damage. Alderman Jordan Sullivan introduced the funding motion and Alderman Kathy Hansen successfully amended it to $20,000.
Mayor Robert Whitehorn told the council he has spent $34,166.62 to date on the project; at the prior meeting he had been authorized to spend $30,000 and used discretionary funds to cover the $4,166.62 overage. The council also asked Recorder‑Treasurer Nanette Barnes to contact Tim Gehring with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management to arrange an inspection and close out the town’s FEMA file related to the work.
The minutes record a unanimous roll call in favor of the amended funding motion. No amendments to the scope of work, contractor names, or a final completion timeline were specified in the minutes.
