Bayfield County to issue RFP after EMS staffing struggles; board aims for August selections

The county’s EMS coordinator reported ongoing staffing struggles and, following discussion, the board agreed an RFP was the best next step.
County EMS Coordinator (recorded as Brian Zieman) told supervisors the county has explored training and forums over the past year but several options remain unexamined; he and deputy administrator Kelly Westlund will work with counsel Meagan Quaderer to draft an RFP and have it ready by June 1. Abeles-Allison said the goal is to review proposals and make final choices at the August board meeting so any contract or cost changes can be reflected in the 2027 budget.
Quaderer, appearing remotely, outlined that an RFP will allow a cost and service comparison between agencies. Supervisors asked clarifying questions about timelines and inclusion in the budget process; Abeles-Allison said the County Board will be kept informed of each RFP step.
