Duchesne County warns residents to observe Stage 2 fire restrictions as extreme fire weather is forecast

Emergency Management Director Josh Phillips told the Duchesne County Commission on June 29 that the county faces critical fire-weather conditions and that the State of Utah is under a Stage 2 Fire Restriction Order.
Director Josh Phillips said a National Weather Service extreme fire-weather warning has been issued — an alert the county has seen only twice before — and that four Type 1 firefighting teams operating in Utah were on a tactical break after three fatalities over the previous weekend. He said sandbags are staged in case monsoon rains cause flooding in the High Uintas, and that Engine 05 is expected back in service on July 3.
Phillips said the State-level Stage 2 order carries a fireworks ban that applies to the county and that incorporated municipalities may decide whether to allow fireworks within their boundaries; Duchesne City, Myton and Altamont have banned fireworks, he noted, and he was unsure of Roosevelt’s and Tabiona’s positions. A Fruitland resident requested digital signs about the ban; Phillips said staff will post flyers at post offices and bulletin boards and will discuss radio and digital-message options. He said the Sheriff’s Office is working with Emergency Management on enforcement.
The commission thanked Director Phillips for his preparedness work. No formal motion or vote to adopt local restrictions was recorded in the minutes; the transcript records staff will pursue public notices and coordinate with law enforcement.
