Solon board highlights student awards, national competition placings and athletic honors

At its June 30 meeting the Solon Board of Education set aside several informational items to recognize student and staff accomplishments.
Board staff announced a Solon graduate received the Value Matters award from Values in Action and will attend Case Western Reserve University; staff said the student’s kindness video aired nationally and reached an audience of about 543,000 students across 1,400 schools.
Officials also reported Solon Excel Tech students placed in the top 10 nationally in multiple SkillsUSA competitions (including a ninth-place finish in CAD engineering technology and an eighth-place finish in engineering technology and design). Presenters described the district’s vocational consortium model (Excel Tech) and noted the district is adding a business academy for the coming year.
The board congratulated six students who won at the Future Problem Solving international world finals in Bloomington, Indiana, including Nandita Srikumar, a senior who won first place in the individual community project senior division.
Separately, the board celebrated athletic director Jim McQuaide’s induction into the Ohio High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and announced athletic-pass season and reserved-seat sales for 2026–27.
