Haynesville High celebrated by Claiborne Parish School Board; district names Students, Teachers and Principal of the Year

The Claiborne Parish School Board on Feb. 5 formally recognized the Haynesville High School football team for winning the 2025 Division IV Non-Select State Football Championship and presented trophies and certificates to district Students, Teachers and Principal of the Year.
The resolution entered into the minutes noted Haynesville High completed the regular season 10-0 and the playoff season 4-0 and won the state championship on Dec. 11, 2025 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Coach David Franklin thanked the board, saying the team is "an exceptional group of young men, not only on the field but off the field," and praised the effort of players and coaching staff.
District winners introduced by Instructional Supervisor Marco French included Students of the Year Emery Edwards (5th grade, Haynesville Elementary), Sonnie Vinson (8th grade, Summerfield High) and Leyla Slaughter (12th grade, Homer High); Teachers of the Year Miranda Wingard (elementary, Summerfield), Macy Garner (middle, Haynesville Jr./Sr.) and LaFrance Cooper (high, Homer); and Principal of the Year William Simms (Haynesville Jr./Sr. High). Superintendent Brooks and Board President Perry Anderson presented trophies and certificates. The minutes state the resolution will be published as part of the official minutes and a copy sent to Haynesville High School.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no policy or budget action was recorded alongside the presentations.
