Claiborne Parish School Board reviews LDOE benchmark changes and principals’ SPS projections

Superintendent Chris Brooks opened the meeting and Secondary Instructional Supervisor Kelli Tims laid out changes to Louisiana Department of Education benchmarks for the 2025–26 school year, including updates to LEAP data, LEAP growth, the ACT and WorkKeys. Tims said the purpose of accountability work is “to raise the bar for academic success, enhance the value of career education and make it easier for the public to understand how schools are performing.”

Tims described a multi-pronged strategy the district will use to meet the revised benchmarks: math and English‑language-arts interventions at every campus, coaching plans for teachers with layered supports, data-driven leadership team meetings and expanded Career and Technical Education offerings at high schools. She highlighted an early-literacy focus intended to support continuous improvement across grade levels.

Following the district overview, each school principal presented their previous-year School Performance Score (SPS) and projected SPS for the coming year. Principals identified campus-specific goals, areas needing reinforcement and methods for communicating with stakeholders, and they shared classroom examples and intervention efforts. The minutes record that principals “expressed enthusiasm for the progress that has taken place this school year.”

Board members asked several clarifying questions during the presentations. The minutes do not attribute specific questions to individual board members. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

The board did not take any formal votes or adopt new policies during the meeting.
