‘One Douglas’ summit brings city, county and school leaders together to reduce service overlap

Representatives from Douglasville, Douglas County, Villa Rica and the Douglas County School System gathered at a One Douglas Summit on June 11 to share plans and look for ways to reduce service duplication and increase cooperation.
Chris Dixon and the hosts said the summit, organized by Dr. Trent North of the Douglas County School System, included Mayor Rochelle Robinson and Douglas County Chairwoman Dr. Ramona Jackson Jones, among others. The stated goal was to align long-term strategies and identify opportunities for collaboration so public resources are used more efficiently across municipal and county lines.
"It was a good day," said David Garcia, who attended the event. "Each governing body basically presented here's what we're currently working on, here's our long-term goals and strategies, and then talked about where there is overlap." Hosts discussed plans to hold the summit annually and explore more regular (quarterly) meetings among key stakeholders to sustain communication.
The summit was described on the episode as an effort to strengthen coordination among multiple jurisdictions that serve the same community, with a focus on practical steps to avoid redundant services and to pursue cooperative programming.
No formal intergovernmental agreements or budget decisions were announced during the episode.
