Historic-trust site visit set after grant application for Bridal/Vreeland House deemed complete

The Nutley Historic Preservation Commission said the New Jersey Historic Trust has accepted its grant application for the Bridal (Vreeland) House and deemed it complete, and commissioners confirmed an on-site visit is scheduled for Monday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. Chair said the purpose of the visit "is basically to understand our application and what we're proposing," and noted the Trust's representative will present the application to the panel of evaluators.

Commissioners discussed who will attend the site visit. The clerk suggested that staff who prepared the existing-conditions report attend; one committee member said, "Frank and Dante and I are going to attend." The group agreed to send an invitation and coordinate attendance details by email.

The commission outlined the review timeline provided in the Trust's correspondence: evaluators will make recommendations to the Trust in late August and the Trust board is expected to decide in September. Chair said the site visit team "will also ask questions that they anticipate from the reviewers," so the group is preparing materials and people to answer those anticipated questions.

Members emphasized showing the property's condition and the committee's stewardship needs during the visit. One commissioner said they want the Trust to "get a feel for the physical state of the house and also gauge our organization," and another noted the visit is an opportunity to point out areas that need help so reviewers understand the case for funding.

Next steps identified by the commission included finalizing who will attend the July 6 visit, preparing documentation for the Trust, and following up after the evaluators' recommendations are posted in August.

The commission approved the minutes earlier in the meeting and otherwise had no bills or communications to act on.
